The Basics

What: Philmont Trek, 12 Day High Adventure backpacking trip

When: Saturday July 5 - Thursday July 17, 2025

You MUST check-in with the Campmaster when arriving and leaving camp.

Fees:

Estimated total cost is $1,675. Travel costs are TBD and will vary depending on if the troop can drive or needs to fly. 

  • $200 deposit for scouts

  • Adults coordinate with Campmaster Lissa Pearson at lissa.pearson@gmail.com for registration and deposit

No scout is ever turned away due to an inability to pay. Inquiries regarding financial aid can be made to W.C. Smith (scoutmaster@troop54houston.org), or Alan Clark (tcc@troop54houston.org).

Activities

12 Day High Adventure backpacking trip at Philmont Scout Ranch in northern New Mexico. 

Philmont’s core and renowned backpacking treks provide an unforgettable adventure in backpacking across miles of rugged, rocky trails. Programs feature the best of the old west—horseback riding, burro packing, gold panning, chuckwagon dinners, and interpretive history—with exciting challenges for today such as rock climbing, mountain biking, and sport shooting. It’s an unbeatable recipe for fast-paced fun in the outdoors.

Prerequisites

Scouts

  • 14 years of age OR be at least 13 years of age and completed the 8th grade prior to participation 

  • Commitment to pre-trip shakedown and preparation plan (see shakedown guidelines here)

Adults

  • Must be within Philmont health guidelines

  • Wilderness First Aid certified (see details on this certification and general Philmont First Aid requirements)

  • Committed to pre-trip shakedown and preparation plan (see shakedown guidelines here)

  • Current YPT (Youth Protection Training) certified (available through your myscouting.org account)

  • BSA Registered

Adult Leaders Needed
